  1. First off I would like to say excellent blog! I had a quick question which I’d like to ask if you do not mind.
I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior to writing.
I have had a hard time clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out there.
I truly do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like
the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be wasted just trying to figure out how
to begin. Any ideas or tips? Thanks!

    1. That’s a really good question 👍 and you’re not alone—most writers struggle with exactly this in the beginning. Here are some practical tips to help you clear your thoughts and get started faster:

🖋 Tips to Center Yourself Before Writing

      1. Brain Dump First

Take 5 minutes and just write down everything that’s on your mind related to the topic—without worrying about grammar or order.

This clears mental clutter and often reveals your opening line naturally.

      2. Set a Small Ritual

Some writers light a candle, play soft background music, or even make a cup of tea before writing.

It signals your brain: “Now it’s time to focus.”

      3. Use Prompts or Questions

Start with simple guiding questions: “What do I want my reader to feel? What’s the one key message I must deliver?”

Answering these often gives you a strong starting point.

      4. Outline in Bullet Points

Instead of writing sentences immediately, jot 3–4 bullets: Introduction idea, key points, conclusion.

Then expand each bullet—this removes the fear of a blank page.

      5. Accept the “Messy Start”

Don’t aim for perfection in the first 10 minutes. Think of it as a warm-up.

Most good writing actually happens during editing, not the first draft.

      6. Timed Writing (Pomodoro Style)

Set a 10-minute timer and just force yourself to write continuously. No stopping, no backspacing.

You’ll be surprised how quickly ideas flow once you override hesitation.

👉 One more thing: Many professional writers keep a “hook bank” —a list of opening lines or ideas they can draw from when stuck. Over time, this makes starting much easier.
